Overview
The Portal tab lets you control which of a client's contacts can log in to the client portal. From here you can enable access, revoke it, or reset a contact's password. Each contact needs an email address before portal access can be granted.
Opening the Portal Tab
- 1Open the client record from the client list
- 2In the left sidebar under Communications, click Portal
You will see a table listing all of the client's contacts with their Name, Email, and portal Status. You can search contacts by name and filter by status.
Portal Access Statuses
Each contact shows one of three statuses:
- No portal access — the contact has never been given access
- Portal access enabled — the contact can log in to the portal
- Portal access disabled — access was previously granted but has been revoked
Enabling Portal Access
- 1Find the contact in the table
- 2Click Enable Access (or Re-enable if access was previously revoked)
- 3A Portal Credentials dialog appears showing the contact's email and a generated password
- 4Copy the email and password using the copy buttons and share them with the contact
- 5Click Done to close the dialog
The generated password is shown only once. Make sure to copy it before closing the dialog. If you lose it, use Reset Password to generate a new one.
The contact must have an email address before you can enable portal access. If the Enable Access button is disabled, add an email to the contact record first.
Resetting a Password
- 1Find the contact whose password you need to reset
- 2Click Reset Password
- 3The Portal Credentials dialog appears with the new password
- 4Copy and share the new credentials, then click Done
Revoking Portal Access
- 1Find the contact in the table
- 2Click Revoke
The contact will immediately lose the ability to log in. Their status changes to Portal access disabled. You can re-enable access at any time.
What Portal Users Can See
Once a contact has portal access, they can:
- View documents marked as client-visible
- Complete document requests
- Sign engagement letters and proposals
- View invoices
- Send and receive messages
