Overview
When your accountant needs documents from you — such as bank statements, identification, or tax records — they create a document request. You can see what has been requested, upload your files, and track the status of each item.
Viewing Your Requests
From the portal navigation, go to Document Requests (under the Documents group). The page heading reads "Upload requested documents for your accountant."
Requests are split into two groups:
- Action Needed — requests with a status of Pending or Rejected that need you to upload a file
- Completed — requests that have been Uploaded or Approved
Each request card shows the item name, its status badge, any notes from your accountant, and the due date if one has been set.
Uploading a File
- 1Find the request card under Action Needed
- 2Click the Upload Document button on the card
- 3Select a file from your device
- 4The file uploads and the status changes to Uploaded
Once uploaded, your file name will appear on the card. Your accountant will review it and either approve or request changes.
Understanding Request Statuses
| Status | What it means | |--------|--------------| | Pending | Your accountant is waiting for you to upload a file | | Uploaded | You have uploaded a file and it is being reviewed | | Approved | Your accountant has accepted the document | | Rejected | Your accountant needs you to re-upload — see their comments for details |
If a request shows Rejected, check the rejection reason displayed in red on the card. You can click Re-upload to submit a new file.
Adding Comments
Each request has a Comments section at the bottom of the card. Click it to expand the conversation thread where you can read messages from your accountant and reply.
- 1Click Comments on the request card to expand the thread
- 2Type your message in the text box
- 3Click the send button or press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac) to send
You can also click View in messages to see the full conversation on the Messages page.
