Overview
Voiding permanently marks an invoice or credit note as cancelled. Voided invoices cannot be edited, paid, or restored. Use voiding when an invoice was issued in error and you need to keep a record of it rather than deleting it entirely.
When You Can Void
- Invoices can be voided when their status is Sent or Overdue.
- Credit notes can be voided when their status is Sent, Overdue, or Paid.
- Draft invoices cannot be voided — delete them instead.
- Paid invoices cannot be voided — issue a credit note instead.
Voiding an Invoice
- 1Open the invoice you want to void by clicking its row on the invoice list.
- 2Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the invoice detail page.
- 3Select Void Invoice (or Void Credit Note for credit notes).
- 4In the dialog, enter a Reason for voiding. This field is required and can be up to 1,000 characters.
- 5Click Void Invoice (or press ⌘+↵) to confirm.
Voiding cannot be undone. The invoice will be permanently marked as void.
What Happens After Voiding
- The invoice status changes to Void.
- A red banner appears at the top of the invoice detail page showing the void reason.
- The invoice row on the list page is displayed with strikethrough text.
- Hovering over the Void status badge on the list page shows the void reason in a tooltip.
- The invoice is no longer visible to clients in the portal.
- All action buttons (send, record payment, edit) are removed.
