Overview
Sending an invoice changes its status from Draft to Sent and assigns an invoice number. For standard invoices you can set or update the due date before sending. For credit notes, sending issues the credit note and applies it to the client's account.
Sending an Invoice
- 1Open the invoice by clicking its row on the invoice list, or navigate to Invoices and select the draft invoice you want to send.
- 2Click the Send Invoice button in the top-right corner of the invoice detail page. This button only appears for invoices in Draft status.
- 3In the Send Invoice dialog, set a Due Date using the date picker. If you already set a due date when creating the invoice, it will be pre-filled.
- 4Click Send Invoice (or press ⌘+↵) to confirm.
The invoice status changes to Sent and an invoice number is assigned automatically.
Sending a Credit Note
For credit notes in Draft status, the primary action button reads Send Credit Note. Clicking it opens the Issue Credit Note dialog. Credit notes do not require a due date — click Issue Credit Note to confirm.
Once an invoice is sent, it can no longer be edited or deleted. You can void it or issue a credit note against it instead.
What Happens After Sending
- The invoice receives a unique, auto-incrementing invoice number.
- The status changes from Draft to Sent.
- The invoice becomes visible to clients in the portal (if they have portal access).
- The invoice PDF is generated and available for download.
